North Carolina High School Ethics Bowl

On Saturday, January 20th, high school students from across North Carolina will travel to UNC to participate in a state-wide Ethics Bowl competition, hosted by the Parr Center for Ethics. If you are interested in volunteering as a judge, moderator, or room staff, please contact our Ethics Bowl Director, Dominique Dery, at dominique.dery@unc.edu.

Speaker Series: Kate Manne (Cornell)

Kate Manne is an assistant professor of the Sage School of Philosophy at Cornell University, where she's been teaching since 2013. Before that, she was a junior fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows from 2011 to 2013. Kate Manne did her graduate work at MIT from 2006 to 2011, with the generous support of a General Sir John Monash scholarship. She was an undergraduate at the University of Melbourne (her hometown), where she studied philosophy, logic, and computer science.

PPE Talk: Richard Reeves

Richard Reeves is a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institute. He works on "social mobility, inequality, and family change." Before his time at Brookings, he served as Director of Strategy for the UK's Deputy Prime Minister.

Kristie Dotson received her M.A. and Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Memphis. She also received a MA from the University of Illinois at Chicago in Literature and a BA in African American Studies and English Literature from Coe College. Professor Dotson researches in epistemology, feminist philosophy (particularly Black feminism and feminist epistemology), and critical philosophy of race.

PPE Talk: Cass Sunstein

"What is Wrong with Manipulation?" Cass Sunstein is the Robert Walmsley University Professor at Harvard. Sunstein served as the Administrator of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs from 2009-2012.  He is the author of numerous books, including Risk and Reason (2002), Nudge: Improving Decisions about Health, Wealth, and Happiness (with Richard H. Thaler, 2008), Simpler: The Future of Government (2013) and Why Nudge? (2014).

Agnes Gellen Callard is an Assistant Professor in Philosophy. She received her B.A. from the University of Chicago in 1997 and her PhD from Berkeley in 2008. Her primary areas of specialization are Ancient Philosophy and Ethics.

National High School Ethics Bowl
