BECOMING A FELLOW

The Parr Center for Ethics has a large group of fellows from all different departments throughout the University.  These fellows have demonstrated interest in teaching and promoting discussion of ethical issues, and believe in the following mission: To become the public face of the university’s commitment to ethics and to be the focal point of productive discussion of ethical issues that are important to us in your research, our teaching, and as citizens of the university and the communities we serve.

Fellows are appointed by the Center’s Director with counsel from the Advisory Board, and were chosen based on their contributions in regards to stimulating the flow of ethics throughout the broader University, fostering partnerships with internal and external organizations, as well as garnering financial support through grants and private sponsorship.

Becoming a Fellow has several benefits.  First, you will join a network of faculty from across the campus who are working on ethical issues and can come together periodically to discuss issues that matter to you, research that might advance our understanding of these issues, and ways of bringing these issues to the classroom. Second, you will be notified of and invited to attend Parr Center events.  Third, you will have priority in suggesting and working with the Center’s staff to organize events.  Finally, Fellows will have special access to Center funding to support programs, research, or course development, and will enjoy the support of our administrative staff in organizing events.

In turn, we ask Fellows to contribute to the Parr Center, to help it live and thrive.  We expect them to engage us with ideas and suggestions.  And we count on them to participate in our events on a regular basis.  These will include a few large events, intended for all Fellows (perhaps three per year), and smaller events aimed at Fellows with particular and overlapping interests.

If you are a faculty member of UNC Chapel Hill, you may apply to become a Faculty Fellow of the Parr Center for Ethics.  Faculty Fellows are appointed for one-year terms, and the appointments are renewable.

To apply, please attach by email a letter describing your current research and teaching interests together with a curriculum vitae of not more than five pages to:
