Green Bioethics: Sustainability in Health Care

Abstract:

The industrialized world produces an enormous amount of carbon dioxide, which contributes to climate change and climate-change related health hazards. Health care is part of this carbon footprint, yet remains overlooked in discussions on environmental sustainability. Thus, Green Bioethics offers four principle to determine if a medical development, technique, or procedure is sustainable: distributive justice, resource conservation, simplicity, and ethical economics. The future of our world may very well depend on how effectively we halt ecological destruction and conserve our resources in all areas of life. Health care is not an exception.
