Ethics Around the Table: Kimberly Brownlee

April 6, 2016 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

previewFileKimberley Brownlee  is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Warwick. Her recent work has focused on civil disobedience, conscience, conviction, and punishment. Her current work focuses on social rights, freedom of association, and social virtues. She is the author of Conscience and Conviction: The Case for Civil Disobedience (OUP 2012).

At this Ethics Around the Table, she will present “The Case for Civil Disobedience”:

Abstract: Is it acceptable to use civil disobedience to protest against the law? Do we have a moral right to use civil disobedience? Do we sometimes have a duty to use it? Should we be punished for doing so? This lecture argues that civil disobedience is more conscientious than so-called ‘conscientious objection’ and, hence, better deserves the accommodations that liberal societies make for deep belief.

This event is free & open to tall; registration is kindly required. Lunch will be provided!
