Stoic Tragedy & the Sources of Human Ethics
This Spring, the Parr Center for Ethics, the Department of Philosophy the Department of Classics invite you to read, perform, discuss, and retell the ancient story of Medea, one of history’s most well known tragic figures. Join us as we consider some of the foundational questions Seneca’s philosophical adaptation of the story raises for us today: human fragility, the role of emotions in our moral lives, woman empowerment and subjugation in the ancient world, the relationship between anger, love, and revenge–and so much more. No background or prior exposure to tragedy, philosophy, or the ancient world is presupposed.
