Department Description

The Parr Center for Ethics serves as the public face of the University’s commitment to research in, teaching about, and conversation concerning ethics. Housed within the Department of Philosophy, it aims to provide the resources-academic, administrative, and financial-necessary to advance our understanding of moral questions. The Parr Center is committed to integrating abstract work in ethical theory with the informed discussion of practical ethical issues. The Center is a two-time recipient of the American Philosophical Association/Philosophy Documentation Center Award For Excellence and Innovations in Philosophy Programs (2008 and 2014).

Position Description

This position will coordinate the day to day functions of the Parr Center for Ethics, serve as the executive assistant to the Director of the Parr Center, and manage the Center’s financial accounts, budgets, and expenditures. The individual will greet students and faculty as they enter the Parr Center and serve as the Parr Center’s main administrative support and communications manager. Answering questions about the Center and the Outreach program, maintaining the website, assisting with events, developing partnerships with other campus entities, writing event descriptions, creating event promotional materials, and managing social media accounts will be some duties of this position. This position will also assist with the administrative aspects of the National High School Ethics Bowl and supervise the Federal Work Study student. This position will serve as the primary manager of the Center’s yearly budget and financial record keeping. They will maintain all accounting procedures, including processing travel receipts and payments, creating independent contractors and vendors when Center hosts speakers, and paying speaker honorariums and receipt reimbursements.
